Jazz re:freshed are purveyors of breaking down the elitist boundaries that have been attached to Jazz. Their most significant aim is to promote jazz that isn't necessarily on everyone's radar. However, they have a healthy mix of both unexposed musicians and ones who are rising up the ranks, concreting their place in the current booming UK scene.
Theon Cross is a tuba player from South London, who is increasingly making a name for himself. Like the genre-defying transformative nature of the young UK jazz scene, Theon's music isn't pigeonholed to one style of music. While performing either in award-winning four-piece Sons of Kemet, or his self-titled three-piece, Theon has collaborated with other well-known musicians including Moses Boyd Exodus, Nubya Garcia, Kansas Smittys, Jon Batiste & Stay Human, Pharoe Monch, Emile Sande and Kano to name a few. Here he performs the self-titled track from his 2015 release 'Aspirations'.
The organisation was founded around their weekly live residency in West London. They now run a festival, film club, club night, and band development programme as well as their own record label.
